Volunteer for Tax-Aide
Being a Tax-Aide volunteer is a very rewarding experience and offers you an opportunity to learn a new skill.
*Iowa Tax-Aide has openings for the below volunteer positions*
Income Tax Preparer. This volunteer position prepares the federal and Iowa returns for our clients. Tax preparer counselors become IRS Certified by completing a self study course, a one week training class and passing a test. The training is thorough and sponsored by the IRS and the AARP Foundation. All annual training and testing is free. Preparation of returns begins in early February and lasts through April 15. You decide how many days per week you would like to volunteer.
The Assistant District Coordinator is a member of the Tax-Aide District Leadership Team. This volunteer uses the AARP Volunteer Portal to generate administrative reports and also maintains various records in the portal. This position does not require doing tax returns and can be accomplished with flexible hours from home.
The Communications Specialist is a member of the Tax-Aide District Management Team. This volunteer forwards volunteer recruitment and program publicity advertising and communications to local media contacts. This position does not require doing tax returns and can be accomplished with flexible hours from home.
Site Greeter A Tax-Aide greeter is the first person clients meet when they enter a tax site. Greeters make sure the client has all the necessary paperwork before meeting with a counselor, and they manage the flow of clients being served.
The Technology Coordinator works with the District Coordinator to help Tax-Aide volunteers with computer hardware, printers, software, network setup, etc. This volunteer position does not require doing tax returns and can be accomplished with flexible hours.
The Partnership and Communications Specialist is a member of the Tax-Aide State Management Team. This volunteer forwards volunteer recruitment and program publicity advertising and communications to media contacts and the state AARP organization. This position does not require doing tax returns and can be accomplished with flexible hours from home.
